Koronowo
A town shaped by Cistercian history.
The main town by the reservoir, with the former monastery complex, the basilica and the strongest historical entry point into the wider area.
Attractions
Koronowo, Pieczyska, Samociążek, the ferry crossing, Cistercian traces and calmer routes that can fill a full weekend.
The places around the reservoir do not all play the same role. Some give you the beach and summer rhythm, others bring a ferry, a hydro plant, quieter shorelines or the start of a forest route. That is why this area works better as a chain of places than as one single point on a map.
Koronowo
The main town by the reservoir, with the former monastery complex, the basilica and the strongest historical entry point into the wider area.
Pieczyska
This is the most summery face of the reservoir: wide beach, marinas, water movement and the easiest first contact with the main body of water.
Samociążek
Samociążek is the calmer gateway to the southern end of the reservoir, close to the hydro plant, the former Black and White lakes and several useful walking and cycling routes.
Nowy Jasiniec
This area offers protected oaks, the ruins of a Teutonic castle, Wyczółkowski Grove and traces of the former Kręgiel holiday complex.
Wielonek and Sokole-Kuźnica
This is where the local character of the reservoir shows up strongly: the seasonal ferry, marinas, wooded shorelines and a strong starting point for a cycling loop.
Zamrzenica
This is the area of the Zamrzenica Forest District and the Tuchola Forest, including the oldest Polish nature reserve, the Old Polish Yews.
The trails reveal another layer of the area: full-day loops, Cistercian traces, Samociążek as a useful start point and a cycling loop that uses the ferry.
Trails
We gathered the best walking and cycling entries into the area in one place: the Koronowo ring, the Cistercian route, the ferry loop and Samociążek as a quieter base.
